Prepare for the official Latvian A2 exam, the way it is actually marked
The Latvian state language exam has four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. To pass you need at least 9 out of 15 in every one of them. A strong part does not rescue a weak one. This course prepares you for exactly that, with mock exams that mark the way the real paper does.

Why this course and not another
Tired of being taught Latvian as if you had been declining nouns since birth?
Almost every Latvian course taught here is built for learners who already arrive from a language with cases, where the end of the word changes and nobody finds it strange. That is why those courses open with vocabulary: the hard part came with the student. English does not bring it, and it shows in exactly the place you are struggling.
For anyone arriving from a case language
Polish, Czech, Russian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Finnish, Estonian...
- Their language already declines. That the end of a word changes with its job is obvious to them.
- Many of those languages have no articles either, like Latvian. Nothing to unlearn.
- Several also carry grammatical gender, so agreement is a habit rather than a new idea.
For that student the course can start at vocabulary. So it does.
You arrive from somewhere else
- English does not decline nouns. The house, in the house, to the house — the word never moves. In Latvian it always moves: māja, mājā, mājas.
- English has no grammatical gender at all, so jauns / jauna is new information, not a habit you can transfer.
- Your verb barely changes: I go, you go, we go. Latvian puts the person in the ending — es eju, tu ej, mēs ejam — and you have to hear it.
None of this gets explained by a method written for someone who was already declining before they walked in.
And one thing nobody warns an English speaker about
Say photograph, then photography. The vowels you swallow move. English reduces every unstressed syllable to a vague uh, and you have done it your whole life without noticing.
Latvian keeps every vowel full — and it keeps the grammar there. māja is a house, mājā is in the house. Mēs braucam is we go, mēs braucām is we went. The whole difference is the length of a vowel in the syllable your accent is trained to throw away.
Which is why you can learn the case table perfectly and still hear nothing in the listening exam. This course starts there, before a single case is named.

Frequently asked questions
Is the course taught in English?
Yes. Every explanation, instruction and answer key on this edition is in English; the Latvian is in Latvian, and every sentence of it is recorded. Russian and Ukrainian editions are planned: see the section above.

Is this the official exam?
No. The official exam is run by the Latvian state. This course prepares you for it: the same format, the same kinds of task and the same rule of 9 out of 15 in every part.
Does it cover the new version of the exam?
Yes. The exam has been renewed, and the whole course follows the new version: it is built on the current official sample paper, and the ten mock exams reproduce that format rather than the previous one.
What level do I need to start?
This is an A2 course, so we assume you have already met Latvian: the alphabet, greetings, the odd phrase. Nothing more than that. All the groundwork is covered again from the start, ending by ending, before we go anywhere near the exam format.

What can I see without paying?

Can I buy just a part of it?
Yes. A single session is 6.25 EUR and stays open for six months; one mock exam is 15 EUR and two are 19.99 EUR, so the second one costs 4.99. Six months as well. It is meant for somebody who only needs to fix one part of the exam. If you want more than a few, full access is better value: eleven single sessions already cost more than three months of everything.
How reliable is the AI correction?
Treat it as guidance. Writing and speaking correction, in the lessons and in the simulator alike, runs on the same AI key you use for the course tutor, and it is a general-purpose model: it is useful for spotting endings, clear mistakes and what you left out, but it is not an examiner's mark and it can be wrong, especially about speaking, which it never heard.
For a real assessment, from someone who can actually judge how you speak, book a session with a native teacher.
Do the passes renew themselves?
No. Both are one-off payments. When the time is up the access simply ends and you are not charged again. If you buy another before the first runs out, the new days are added to what you have left rather than replacing it.
How do I get in after paying?
With your email. We send you a sign-in link, so there are no passwords. Access is tied to your email address, which means you can use it from any device.
Can I get a refund?
In the European Union you have a legal right to withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days. Digital content has an exception: that right is lost once you agree to start using the content immediately. Paying gives that consent, which is why access opens at once, and the payment page says so clearly before you confirm. If something is broken or your purchase went wrong, write to us and we will fix it: refund policy.
What data do you keep about me?
The minimum: your email, your progress through the course and the record of your purchase. Conversations with the AI tutor do not pass through our servers at all. The details are in the privacy policy.
